NZRC / NEW ZEALAND RESEARCH CHALLENGEA paper-first competition for curious students

The missing step is the manuscript.

NZRC gives students a structured place to practise the part of research that is easy to skip: moving from a question to evidence, an argument, and a paper another reader can follow.

NZRC / WHY

Research becomes useful when the thinking is visible.

A clear route from question to paper.

Curiosity is common. Disciplined follow-through is teachable.

Students often get opportunities to perform an experiment, give a presentation, or complete an assignment. NZRC focuses on the manuscript: a piece of writing with a clear question, a traceable evidence base, an argument, and a conclusion that does not claim more than the work supports.

THE MANUSCRIPTQuestion → evidence → argument → conclusion.

WHO IT SERVES

One challenge, three useful roles.

STUDENTS / 01

Make a question yours.

Build a paper you can explain, defend, and improve. The process matters as much as the final ranking.

SCHOOLS / 02

Give curiosity a structure.

Use a current prompt as an extension activity, writing challenge, or research programme that fits your own safeguards.

QUESTION / EVIDENCE / CONCLUSION

Not a science fair. Not a promise of publication. A practice ground.

NZRC does not claim to replace school assessment, university admissions, or peer review. It is a small, structured opportunity to practise research communication honestly.
